Forest Planning Workshop Scheduled

Save the Date of July 1, 2009 for a National Forest Plan Revision Process Workshop

The Pacific Southwest Region of the Forest Service is beginning the process to revise the management plans for the national forests in California.  The Regional Forester decided to revise fourteen forest plans over the next three years (the plans for the four Southern California forests were revised in 2005).   

The Forest Service is beginning the process in the Sierra Nevada.  A Regional Planning Executive Team was formed to guide and manage the revision process.  A Regional Interdisciplinary Team is being formed to develop regional guidance and templates and to complete and document complex analyses to support the process.   
We are guided in our plan revision work by a new Planning Rule developed in 2008.  Using the new rule, a comprehensive evaluation report (CER) will be completed for the Sierra Nevada region.  This regional CER will help focus the development of local CERs and forest plans for each national forest.  

The Forest Service will host a workshop at the McClellan Wildland Fire Training Center, 3237 Peacekeeper Way, McClellan, CA, near Sacramento, on July 1 (10:00 AM to 3:00 PM) to discuss the forest plan revision process.  One purpose for this workshop will be to enlist the help of the participants in designing a public participation process for the Sierra Nevada CER.  Another purpose for the workshop will be to discuss the initial outline and some of the content for the Sierra-wide CER.  We would like for the participants at the workshop to give us their advice about our approach and proposed content for the CER.  Video conference links to the workshop will be available at the Sierra National Forest headquarters in Clovis and at the Plumas National Forest headquarters in Quincy.
