When I got my 91 4Runner in spring 1999 I was very excited about it, and began 4wheeling it soon there after. In the summer of 2001 I decided that my stock suspension was no longer doing the job, so I started looking into upgrades. After months of research I settled on Old Man Emu (OME) rear coil springs and Sway-A-Way (SAW) 25 millimeter torsion bars. The coils and t-bars arrived and the next afternoon I dove into the installation. The stock coils dropped right out and the new ones went right in. Total install was just over an hour. When I put the tires back on and set it down, my rear was about 3" higher than the front, so I knew I was going to have to crank some lift into my t-bars. I next tackled the front. The drivers side was no problem. The passenger side was a little more difficult, as I had to drop the gas tank skid plate and the auto tranny cooler to get the bar out. I also installed new adjustment nuts and bolts available from the dealer and coated them with anti-seize compound. I cranked them up a few turns and measured my rim to fender distance, and after some fine tuning, I had 15" rim to fender. It should be noted that with this much lift cranked in, you should have manual locking hubs installed. I also installed ultra low profile Energy Suspension down travel bump stops to regain some of my lost travel. It was now time for a test drive. Even with 33" MT/R's, the ride is AMAZING! It is much better than stock, and I highly recommend it as a cheap solution to a 4" IFS lift. As stated, I am running 33's with this lift and with no mud flaps, I have very little rubbing, even at full articulation.
